There’s a four day food extravaganza coming up in Reading in June. The Oracle (shopping centre) will be holding their Fresh Food Fair on the 2nd and 3rd and then, on 4th and 5th, there’ll be loads of fun for all the family in the town centre for Eat Reading Live 2011. This free foodie event will feature: stalls from local restaurants serving ‘street food’ versions of their dishes; cookery demonstrations; the finals of Reading Steady Cook (a competition to find the town’s best amateur chefs); live music and entertainment.

The festival will launch with a charity gala lunch on 1st June at the Hilton Reading. Five fantastic local chefs will come together in the one kitchen to showcase the very best of food on offer in Reading.

Participating chefs are:

Alan Murchison Multi-award winning Executive Chef of Reading’s Michelin starred L’ortolan restaurant in Shinfield.

Tutu Melaku: Bringing some spice to Reading, the UK’s most vibrant Ethiopian chef and owner of Tutu’s Ethiopian table at the Global Café

Tony Cole: Chef and owner of LSQ2 in Green Park and at The Oracle. ‘Pride of Reading’ restaurant of the year, winner of the ‘Lovely Lunch’ award and champion of Reading Sauce.

Loic Gaultier: A Frenchman celebrating the very best of British food at the Caversham restaurant Mya Lacarte, a previous winner of the ‘Pride of Reading’ awards.

Martyn Watkins: Executive Chef at the Hilton Reading. Passionate about putting the flavour and sparkle back in to event dining.

All proceeds from the sale of tickets will be distributed to children’s charities via Hilton in The Community Foundation. The Foundation’s core costs are funded by Hilton Worldwide, so every net pound raised goes directly to good causes and at least 50% of what is raised at the lunch will go to charities in Reading.

There is no fixed price for tickets but all those attending are asked to give as generously as possible. Tickets will include food and wine and so an absolute minimum donation of £30 per ticket (£300 per table of 10) is suggested.
