Export Growth Marks the End of PDO Campaign October 18, 2013 News Leading Italian food Consortiums the Consortium of Prosciutto di San Daniele and the Consortium for the Protection of Grana Padano Cheese are proud to announce the end of a successful three-year partnership. The integrated campaign has sought to educate and raise awareness about the quality, authenticity, and traceability of these Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) products amongst retailers and consumers throughout the United Kingdom, resulting in a year-on-year increase in demand for both products. Export growth of Prosciutto di San Daniele increased on the previous year by 27% in 2010, 28% in 2011 and 29% in 2012. The campaign also succeeded in generating export growth for Grana Padano Cheese throughout the UK, with an increase of 0.54% in 2012 on the previous year. Mario Cichetti, CEO of the Consortium of Prosciutto di San Daniele, remarked: “This growth in demand for PDO products acknowledges the importance that UK consumers place on traceability and authenticity of food products, especially in light of the challenges that the food industry has faced in regards to these issues over the past year. Consumers want to know that the products they are buying are of the highest quality and from producers that they can trust.” For more information on the PDO programme, please visit: http://ec.europa.eu/agriculture/quality/.
