ABEL & COLE TO DONATE 1.43MILLION PORTIONS OF FRUIT & VEGETABLES January 24, 2022 News A new One Box: One Portion initiative from Abel & Cole has launched, designed to help people help others by donating a portion of fruit or vegetables for every Fruit & Vegetable Box sold. The initiative will see over 1.4 million portions donated throughout 2022 with donations supporting three charities: DONS Local Action Group, The Felix Project and School Food Matters. All three charities support local, community driven initiatives, getting food to the tables of those who need it most. With Abel & Cole research* indicating that almost half of adult men and children and a third of women are keen to help their local communities, the scheme is a great way for people to make a practical difference alongside their weekly fruit and veg shop. Stephanie Slater of School Food Matters commented: “Our focus is to tackle health inequalities; to make sure that families receive food that will support good health and encourage their children to eat more fruit and veg. This is important as Government figures show that only 12% of 11–18-year-olds consume five portions of fruit and veg a day, as recommended, while for adults that figure is 33%. The financial impact of Covid will have made veg even less affordable for many. This makes Abel & Cole’s contribution to this important work around food insecurity that much more impactful.’” Hannah Shipton, MD at Abel & Cole, commented: “The pandemic has changed the way we look at life and has increased the desire to help others. We wanted to find a way to help people help others as part of their day to day lives and our new One Box: One Portion scheme does just that. Our customers can buy their sustainably sourced, organic Fruit & Vegetable Boxes that they love and know that they are doing their bit to help those less fortunate than themselves.” To find out more about One Box: One Portion and help make a difference in 2022 visit abelandcole.co.uk/fightfoodpoverty.
