BRITS SAY GOODBYE TO SUMMER WITH A SWEET TREAT September 2, 2024 News Candy Floss, ice cream with a flake, cream teas – they’ll all iconic treats associated with theGreat British seaside and days out– but a nice slice of cheesecake is about to dislodge theseclassics as Brits enjoy the final curtain-call of summer before the kids go back to school.Research by The Delicious Dessert Company asked Brits which sweet treats they’d most liketo enjoy on a Great British day out. A slice of cheesecake with some summer fruits or a chocdrizzle topped the wish list for a moment of indulgence with one in four Brits (24%). Donutsand Yum Yums were a big hit with Londoners (29%) along with eclairs (22%) – whilst theScots would ditch their beloved shortbread for an indulgent ice cream treat (28%). Incomparison, the traditional cream tea was a favourite for just 15% of people and only 12%would opt for a carton of popcorn to enliven their day out.And it may not be Mother’s Day, but it’s the nation’s mums that are most up for a sweettreat. Nationally, 73% of those polled said they would be buying their mum a delicious‘thank you’ surprise– and topping this list was luxury ice cream (14%), cheesecake (13%),scones (14%), eclairs (12%) and fudge (11%). Dads, in contrast, are in line for a more modesthelping of shortbread (11%), fruit cake (10%) and boiled sweets (10%).Claire Smith, Head of Insight at The Delicious Dessert Company commented: “We all livebusy lives, work hard and are conscious of the need to follow a balanced diet but we areallowed those occasional indulgent treats.
