Beer and Buns June 24, 2018 Reviews Beer and Buns is an excellent casual hangout without having to break the bank. Situated upstairs at K10 right by Liverpool Street station this place is a handy little spot, perfect for those who just want to kick back, relax and just catch up especially after a hard day at the office. The food and drink served here is not out of this world by any stretch of the imagination, but it is decent grub that will satisfy and please the masses. It’s not expensive, the portion sizes are very good and it certainly goes down well with a crisp Japanese craft beer. Alongside the food and drink, Beer and Buns has an excellent playlist paying homage to some of the best old school rock/grunge/alternative bands we have had the pleasure of listening to in the last 30 years or so as well as retro pinball machines (free to play!) and foosball tables – an added bonus right there. Back to the food and the menu at this joint is what you would expect to see – quick, easy, fuss free and incredibly fulfilling. Trust me you can smash the entire menu between a good group of you. It’s more of a snack scenario, perfect for this kind of environment. The menu includes hirata buns – soft pillow textured buns filled with an assortment of fillings such as a big chunky slice of pork belly (shame the fat isn’t crispy), tempura battered soft shell crab (my favourite), aubergine katsu, tender chicken karaage and many others. These bad boys are an excellent option to fill that hole. The bites and sides options go very well alongside the buns, with the gyozas and crispy chicken wings (go for Korean hot) far from disappointing! – Both are uber crispy on the outside and they’re a moreish snack especially when having an extra dollop of chill sauce. The chips are given a bit more of a colourful transformation. The cheesy Korean fries have a kick ass fiery slightly sweet topping layered with loads of cheese whilst the Japanese poutine has a sweet katsu curry sauce type gravy, again loaded with lashings of cheese. Forget the world for a bit and just enjoy escaping and hanging out at one of London’s coolest spots. With decent food at very good prices and some refreshing Japanese beers on tap, this place is worth hitting up. www.beerandbuns.co.uk Upstairs At K10, 3 Appold Street, City Of London London EC2A 2AF 07724 548859 Bar Opening Times: Mon – Fri, 5pm till late Kitchen Opening Times: Mon – Wed, 5pm till 9.30pm Thurs – Fri, 5pm till 10pm About Latest Posts Foodpunk JoeThe whole idea of FoodPunk is to showcase the awesome food that London has to offer, whether its going to various restaurants, eating at food markets or even finding some hidden gems tucked away in the heart of the city.
