A Taste of Australia: Unique Flavours Thriving on UK Shores March 27, 2024 News As the one-year mark of the UK-Australia Free Trade Agreement approaches, a culinary shift is underway in the UK, according to Austrade, the Australian Trade & Investment Commission. The trade deal, which has eliminated tariffs on over 90 per cent of goods between both nations, has ushered in a wave of new and exciting flavours into the UK market, including lime caviar, lemon myrtle, Jarrah honey and Glacier 51 Toothfish, to name a few. The UK’s appetite for Australia’s top premium products and indigenous superfoods has soared, with specialist retailers, high-end restaurants and supermarkets now beginning to stock unique Australian flavours. There’s a surge in demand for Australian honey, for instance. Celebrated for its medicinal properties derived from the country’s rich biodiversity, it has seen a 90 per cent increase in exports between June 2023 – January 2024. Premium brand, Australian Rare Honey, can be found in Harrods, while Forest Fresh has recently won a Great Taste Award and will be launching Jarrah honey into the UK. But it’s not just honey that’s creating a buzz. The nutritious macadamia nut has seen a staggering 12,016 per cent surge in exports to the UK during the same time period, fueled by a growing interest in health-conscious snacking options. Meanwhile, seafood lovers can now indulge in Glacier 51 Toothfish, high in Omega-3 and renowned for its thick, rich-flavoured white flesh, which is now gracing the tables at the Ivy Restaurants and being sold via Wholefoods UK. Fremantle Octopus can also be found in Wholefoods UK, while Yarra Valley Caviar will be launching its salmon caviar in Harrods later this month. *** Contact Austrade to source from reliable and premium Australian suppliers to the UK.
