Food Waste

Remade South East is a not-for-profit company which aims to create and sustain new markets for waste resources in order to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.

Every year 16 million tonnes of edible food from the UK ends up in landfill and the value of purchasing and disposing of this food waste costs over £11 billion.

To develop food waste re-processing in the South East, Remade is managing a three-year initiative (2009-2012) to create demonstration trials testing the collection and treatment of commercial food waste. A series of collections and in-situ trials are being operated in Kent, Sussex and Milton Keynes to compare and contrast food waste systems to identify the most economically and environmentally beneficial schemes for micro and small businesses.

In addition to the trial, Remade is running a series of training events in Central Milton Keynes and East Sussex which are free to local small-medium companies. The sessions will illustrate how local businesses can reduce the amount of food waste they send to landfill, lower their carbon footprint and potentially identify cost savings.
