Rexam Food Containers has recently started supplying major Dutch food group, Zwanenberg, with high-barrier plastic containers for an exciting new range of microwave soups and meat-ball based snacks. With 1,300 employees and net sales of EUR 350 million, Zwanenberg Food Group is a prominent European producer and exporter of meats and associated products. Zwanenberg has twelve production locations in The Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Arjan de Groot, Purchasing Manager said ‘The convenience food market for people ‘on the go’ is growing fast and we wanted to launch a new range of high quality soups and snacks that can be heated in a microwave oven in only two minutes and eaten directly from the container. The Rexam bowls were ideal for our needs, as we were able to fill, close them with a double-seamed, metal, easy-peel end and process them on our existing can-filling lines. The consumer also likes the modern hygienic plastic container, decorated with an attractive insulating shrink label. The pack is completed by a labelled plastic overcap, supplied by Henke of Germany, which acts as a splash-guard and steam vent’

The Rexam stock 99mm diameter bowls have been produced using Rexam’s unique Rotary ThermoForming (RTF) technology. The containers, formed in the melt-phase so there is no in-built stress, have superior retort and barrier performance and feature a very accurately formed flange, enabling them to be closed with a double seamed metal end.

Rexam’s European Sales and Marketing Director, Nick Brewin, said: ‘Rexam is delighted to be working with such a well-known and respected group as Zwanenberg as they seek to diversify their product range and grow their market positions, developing tomorrow’s packs for high-quality, ambient convenience foods. Our stock range of retort bowls and trays is ideally suited to this objective.’
